A screw conveyor moves material from the outlet of the product hopper to the inlet of the packing machine. The feeder unit is airtight and waterproof, keeping the product dry and free of moisture.
Mechanically it is simple: a helical flight turns inside a tube and the material advances with every rotation. That simplicity is the point — no belt to tear, no chain to tension, no exposed surface for the product to pick up contamination from.
The three types
• Horizontal — moving material between production stages on one level. • Inclined — the most common, lifting material from a floor-level hopper to a packing machine inlet above it. • Vertical — where horizontal space is unavailable and the lift must be near-plumb.
When to choose it over an open conveyor
A screw conveyor is the right answer when any of these apply:
1. The product must stay dry — a closed tube keeps ambient moisture out. 2. The product is dusty or airborne — flour, cement, powders. An open belt loses a percentage and contaminates the area. 3. Steady metered feeding is required — motor speed (typically 40 to 200 rpm with regulation) translates directly into a controllable feed rate. 4. Hygiene requirements apply — AISI 304 tube and hopper make cleaning and sanitising routine.
What to confirm before ordering
Particle size and stickiness of the material, required feed rate in kg/hour, the incline angle, and the height of the packing machine inlet. Sticky or bridging materials need a different flight and hopper geometry — decided at design time, not discovered after installation.
